Sharif ranked first in Iran in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020

Sharif University of Technology ranked first in Iran in two broad subject areas and in nine specific subjects in which Sharif was ranked in the latest annual subject ranking by QS.

The QS University Rankings by Subject 2020, released Tuesday, also ranked Sharif 221st globally for Engineering & Technology, a result unmatched by any other Iranian university.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject ranked nearly 1,400 institutions based on academic survey results, employer review survey results, citations per research paper and the H-index, an author-level metric that attempts to capture the productivity and impact of a scholar’s publications. In the arts, humanities and social sciences rankings, academic and employer surveys weigh more heavily than STEM subjects, where citation-based indicators are more important.

Sharif ranked first nationally in the QS subject ranking in nine subjects. They were: Electrical & Electronic Engineering (150-200 globally); Computer Science & Information Systems (250-300 globally); Chemical Engineering (200-250 globally); Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering (150-200 globally); Civil & Structural Engineering (150-200 globally); Materials Science (200-250 globally); Physics & Astronomy (400-450 globally); Mathematics (300-350 globally); and Statistics & Operational Research (150-200 globally).

Overall, Sharif continues to be the highest-ranked Iranian university and one of the top-ranked public universities in the three most closely watched international rankings: Times Higher Education World University Rankings, QS World University Rankings, Shanghai Ranking Consultancy’s Academic Ranking of World Universities.
