Graduate of Sharif University of Technology, now a PhD student at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology of University of Queensland considers the focus on founding interdisciplinary research institutions and the expansion of international cooperation, the two main steps to be taken towards the improvement of research in Sharif University of Technology.
Fatemeh Movahedi is back to Sharif to deliver a talk at the Institute for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of Sharif University of Technology, an interdisciplinary research institute for Nanotechnology. However, she thinks Sharif University needs to found a ground where researchers from fields such as medicine, pharmacology, and biology join researchers of Sharif who are specialized at engineering disciplines. This is a need in a world that research is more and more about information, technique, and concept integration, as she puts forward. She mentions the very strong role Iranian scientific institutes have played in science production in the field of Nanotechnology, which is a representative of the potential worthy of further investment.
“Sharif University’s reputation and the large number of Sharifis pursuing academic studies abroad is the potential Sharif University can use to establish international cooperation”, she said. Believing in such a policy, it has been for some time the main goal for decision makers of the university. Joint programs, professor/ student exchange programs, opportunities for internships and sabbaticals in international universities are all part of the long-term program Sharif has for internationalization and empowering research.
