In the 2020 Times Ranking, Sharif University of Technology was announced to be the 2nd university of Iran and 75th university of Asia.
Reported by International Affairs Office, the Times Ranking was announced on June 3, 2020, and SUT, with the rank of 75 and 11 steps elevation, was announced to be among top 100 Asian universities.
The Times is one of the internationally recognized Ranking systems which have started assessment of universities worldwide since 2004. It also offers the annual ranking of top Asian universities since 2003.
In Times 2020 list, East Asian countries won the highest top ranks. For the first time, Tsinghua University and Peking University from China stood at first and second place respectively. The National University of Singapore ranked third with two steps drop. The University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Nanyang Technological University, and University of Tokyo stood at fourth to seventh place respectively.
In Times 2020 ranking, available on the official website, five Iranian universities were announced to be among top 100 universities for the first time. It is noteworthy that analogous to Times world ranking, in Asian ranking it uses 13 indicators in 5 criteria, namely, education, research, references, industrial income, and international image.
