Based on the January edition of the Webometrics ranking system in 2023, 457 Iranian institutions have been listed. Sharif University of Technology is among the first 5 Iranian universities. More than 4000 universities around the world made the list.
The primary objective of publishing Webometrics is not merely to rank websites but also to improve web publishing. Cyber-metrics Lab publishes two editions of the Webometrics system annually in January and July. A major objective of this ranking system is to promote open access, electronic access to scientific publications, and access to academic resources. Impact (or visibility), accessibility (or transparency), and excellence (research) are the factors Webometrics uses to evaluate institutions' websites.
According to the Webometrics ranking report in January 2023, Harvard University is the leader with the highest score, followed by Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of California and etc.
