Elite Iranian mathematician, Dr. Tina Turkman, has recently defended her thesis at Harvard University under the guidance of Fields Medal winner, Curtis McMullen. Dr. Turkman, who graduated from Sharif University of Technology (SUT), is interested in studying geometry and dynamics.
She is the fifth Iranian to obtain a doctorate degree from Harvard University, following in the footsteps of the notable mathematician, the late Maryam Mirzakhani, who won the Fields Medal in 2014. The esteemed mathematician, Maryam Mirzakhani, earned her undergraduate degree from SUT in Tehran, Iran, and her Ph.D. from Harvard University in 2004, where she worked under the guidance of Curtis McMullen. Her doctoral thesis focused on the study of hyperbolic surfaces, which are complex shapes with negative curvature.
